Anti-Gun Joe Morrissey in Hot Water Over Sex

Joe Morrissey, the flamboyant anti-gun Virginia state delegate who once toted an AK-47 onto the statehouse floor, is in trouble again, this time for allegedly having sex with a 17-year-old receptionist in his office. Morrissey complicated his denial of the charge by going on television and quoting a text from the girl, who told a friend, "OMG, I just f----ed my boss." How, exactly, he hoped for exoneration by repeating that line was unclear.

A special grand jury charged the publicity-hungry pol with four felonies, including supervisory indecent liberties with a minor, electronic solicitation of a minor, possession of child pornography and distribution of child pornography. He also faces a misdemeanor charge of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Morrissey got a lot of media attention last year by waving an AK-47 around on the floor of the House to argue for an "assault weapon" ban. Statehouse wags noted that he had, while Commonwealth's Attorney in Richmond, managed to lose a Tec-9 and an Uzi, firearms he used as props while making speeches supporting gun control. The Uzi was later found in the locker of a heroin dealer, while the Tec-9 is still unaccounted-for.

Morrissey had served jail time while commonwealth's attorney for a punch-up with a defense attorney and lost his law license for 10 years in the wake of a beating administered to another man.

Now, I'm not going to be so crass as to suggest that Morrissey is somehow representative of the anti-gun population, nor will I point out that Mike Bloomberg's now-defunct Mayors Against Illegal Guns had a child molester and other crooks among its ranks. But I will ask what the media reaction would be if a state politician on our side did the same. Think it'd be a one-day story as it will be with Morrissey?
