Firearms News June 2024 — Bravo Company's RECCE

On the cover: Bravo Company's RECCE By David M. Fortier, Executive Editor

The light was fading fast. I was walking back from checking my 100-yard target when I noticed just how dark it was getting. I had a bit of time left, but not a lot. So, I grabbed a box of Black Hills’ 77-grain OTMs and began stuffing rounds into a magazine. Then, I moved from my bench to shooting standing supported. My target was a solitary steel silhouette posted 280 yards away. My plan was to put five rounds on target, check my point of impact, and then move to 450 and 500 yards. Settling in behind the rifle, I placed the reticle in the center of the head of the steel target. I was cheating a bit by using a big, high-magnification Vortex. Relaxing, I broke the shot and a black dot appeared on the distant steel. I repeated what I was doing and a second, and then a third, dot appeared on the white paint. I could tell it was a good group, sub- MOA. A fourth black dot appeared, and then...I shanked the fifth low. I laughed. It happens.

I was having a great day on the range with Bravo Company Manufacturing’s (BCM) Recce-16 KMR-A MK2 chambered in 5.56x45mm. A light and handy AR-15, it was shooting very well. The weather had been wonderful all day, with a light breeze and warm temps. Then, as the sun went down, the temperature began to drop, but it was a pleasant and relaxing trouble-free time. The BCM was proving very comfortable and fun to shoot, and it was posting some nice groups. I really wasn’t surprised though. I have tested a number of BCM AR-15 rifles and pistols over the years and have found them to be monotonously reliable and very accurate for a “duty” firearm. BCM actually built their reputation on offering high-quality pieces that could be depended on during the Global War on Terror (GWOT). Based out of Hartland, Wisconsin, Bravo Company was founded back in 2005 by Paul Buffoni. I had started writing for the firearms industry in 1998 and I remember when Buffoni and BCM appeared on the scene.
