If you are a belt-fed machine gun aficionado, WWI or WWII firearms buff, or a historian who appreciates fine books on small arms, Chipotle Books of Henderson, Nevada, has something for you. Publisher/owner Megan Shea Vukodinovich has announced the Kickstarter campaign for the book The Vickers Machine Gun: Pride of the Emma Gees.
The book will be an expansion and update to the research done by Dolf Goldsmith. Goldsmith is known to those in small arms research as a subject-matter expert and who authored the book The Grand Old Lady of No Man's Land: The Vickers Machine Gun. Firearms experts Richard Fisher, Robert G. Segel ,and Dan Shea will be doing the heavy lifting on this new addition, and special editions will be available to those who contribute more to the effort.
If you recognized the name Dan Shea, it must be because you are familiar with the magazines Machine Gun News and Small Arms Review. Shea is the man behind these great magazines, which started out in newspaper form back in the 1980s. I was an avid reader from the beginning and have known Dan Shea personally for over 20 years, when we were both on the National Defense Industrial Association Small Arms Committee (actually, I spoke to Dan on the phone back in the late 1980s). I would have to say that there is no one who has promoted the ownership of transferable machine guns as much as he has, and probably the only one who came close was machine gun dealer J. Curtis Earl. Collectors of machine guns have a lot to be grateful for in Shea’s work, which spans well over three decades, and this new effort is something which is very worthy of this fund-raising effort.
